How to Raise a Science Lover

The world of science is a forever expanding one, with so many different fields that could lead to future careers. For those of you that are keen to encourage a love of science in your children, we’ve teamed with an independent school in Surrey to guide you through some tips on how to raise a science lover!

Answer Questions!

Your child may already be a natural at this, but you should encourage them to ask questions about the world around them. You might have some of the answers, but if there’s ever a question that needs some research, do it together and learn more about the world through their eyes too. This should help them develop a natural curiosity about how everything works, with science often holding the answers.

Do Some Experiments

Remember all the fun experiments you did at school, like making a volcano with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar? Well, why not conduct some of these safe experiments at your own home, out of the classroom? Bringing science to life is key to inspiring a fascination with the subject, and conducting safe experiments at home as part of a fun family activity is a magical way to introduce your child to the world of science.

Talk Science

Whether it’s discussing something cool you’ve learnt yourselves, or asking your child to share anything new they have learnt, make some dinner times conversations revolve around different realms of science. Talk about new space probes, environmental initiatives, anything that conjures up further scientific discussion. Again, crafting an environment of curiosity is a very crucial component to nurturing a love of science in your children.

Having a child that is fascinated in science might open up their world to a number of fascinating future career paths. But even if science doesn’t turn into a future career, instilling an awareness of how science and nature works will help make them a more environmentally conscious and intellectually curious member of society.
